rosiematt Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 new on here so forgive me if i am going over something you have already covered. my fuse box in the engine bay has started the old melting trick, everything is still working ok at minute so only using for short journeys and checking regular. what i am asking is that is replacing the fuse box a straightforward switch or is reprogramming and suchlike needed? i am aware i would have to relace the alternator wire as well and potentially the wire going back to the loom (top two wires i believe) for info this is a 2001 galaxy ghia 2.3 cheers Matt Quote
mikej Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 Hi Matt and welcome to the forum mate, like many others on here i have changed the fusebox myself in the past, mine totally melted almost taking the car with it lol. Straight forward swap mate and as you mentioned change the large alternator cable or you will be doing it again, the only programming i had to do was the stereo so make sure you have the code. Just for info i have the same car and found vw alot cheaper than fords at the time for the box, it's a vw part anyway best of luck mike... Quote
rosiematt Posted June 20, 2011 Author Report Posted June 20, 2011 yeah its 12 quid cheaper at vw, its just i was talking to an auto electrician earlier who said it had to be done at ford as needed reprogramming after. do you have to disconnect battery or can you just swap as is matt Quote
Mirez Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 (edited) The mans clearly a fool. Its just a dumb fuse box with no controllers or anything like that so what exactly he plans on reprogramming is anyones guess! It comes minus fuses so if any of your own are looking iffy or have burnt then you'll need to make sure you order those at the same time and since the main feed is a cable to the battery then yes you will obviously have to disconnect it to replace the box. :) As Mike says, the only thing you'll need is the radio code but make sure you have the keys outside the vehicle - they have a nasty habit of locking the doors when you reconnect the battery! <br> Edited June 20, 2011 by Mirez Quote
rosiematt Posted June 20, 2011 Author Report Posted June 20, 2011 yeah top two are a little crispy inside, where does the alternator lead run as i have not had time to have proper look yet, is that easy to run new one round. thanks again for the info so far Quote
mikej Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 I Have no idea why but i was lucky enough to have all the fuse links included with my new fuse box, maybe luck don't know ? :) Quote
