I still haven't got around to fitting the Sparkrite Alarm and Remote Locking module.

Much to the delight of Alarm Man, I'm not going to, too many boxes and wires, when all I want is the remote locking.

Has anyone tried the Cobra 1046/ICD locking system?

Would be interested to know how you got on Paul.

I've had a problem with lock barrels recently and am fed up anyway why Ford would fit central locking without a remote so need to find an easy remote system to install and the Cobra sounds as good as any.

Cheers

I'm looking at fitting mine next Sunday.

Bought the unit from Incardiscount.co.uk, came within 24 hours, but they still "HAD" to charge me post & packing, even though I collected it from their Tewkesbury shop!

I've got the passenger door lock going stiff, and when using the boot lock, I always seem to turn it the wrong way, so the Cobra should be great.

Mussey1 has given me a list of the wires he connected, so I'm hoping it should be a quick job.

Have any of the rest of of you got a diesel (I notice EVSS has).

I ask because I had an Alarm fitted a few years ago, it works fine, only the claxon is just not loud enough, due to the sound insulation on the diesel - I think.

Got it fitted tonight. Everything works ok, provided the passenger door is open. If it is closed, nothing works. If I lock with the door open, then close the door, I need a key to get in, because it locks the passenger door as it closes!

Any ideas

depending on which system you have fitted depends on how loud, mine is fitted between the battery and the suspension top and is loud enough.

paul YHM... sent you the specific diagram for your locking 95 /97.

It's fitted and working, I've even taken a pic of the installation, and noted down the wires I connected to.

A very big thankyou to EVSS and Mussey1 for all their help

Thanks guys

I had a Pirahna system fitted.

When I was looking around for systems to fit, I always found that they had the same decibel output. I even tried a sparkrite and had the same low volume output.

The current systems claxon is fitted at the back of the engine bay behind the block, not far down.

I alway thought the sound was impaired due to the diesel sound insulation, but yours (EVSS) seems OK.

Can you buy a better sounder for the standard Galaxy alarm?

My Galaxy has the standard alarm with volume sensing, immobiliser and remote locking. However the alarm sounder is a small car horn with intermittant beeping which does not make much noise. Can you just buy a better sounder and attach it?

Is the intermittant beep of the standard sounder part of the car alarm controller rather than the sounder meaning any new sounder would still have the intermittent pattern?

I've just ordered a Cobra 1046 for converting to remote control on the existing central locking from incardiscount.co.uk am I likely to get enough information with the unit to install it in my year 2000 1.9Tdi or do I need to beg some extra info as Paul had?

Thanks

Tony

Sorry EVSS, I didnt realise I could have got one through you or I would have done as was really pleased when you guys solved a wiper electrics problem I had before.

The Cobra 1046 has arrived now and as suggested the wiring instructions are suitably vague so if anyone can help with a few more practical indications of what wire to connect to which in a Gal that would be really useful.

Have discovered that my Gal is actually a 1999 110 Tdi Zetec, she's having her MoT done today and already needs exhast bits, track rod end and some tyres so looking a bad month.

Cheers

You're cars wiring will be a bit different to mine, so I can't help too much with the colours you need, but I can say that if you look at the centre pages in the destructions, even though most VW's are pneumatic, you need the diagram on the top right.

I found that the wires in the car varied from the diagrams I had, so I found all my connections with the aid of a digital volt meter, and some help from Gary. Bear in mind when finding wires that voltage states change when doors are open. I fitted my unit under the front passenger seat, next to the CDL unit, which meant I did all my work kneeling on the ground leaning through the passenger door. When I came to test the unit, everything worked unless the passenger door was closed. I hadn't tested the ignition positive lead with the door shut. So when the door was shut, the unit thought the ignition was on, and refused to work!

I've connected into each wire by scraping away a piece of insulation with a scalpel, soldering the new lead and wrapping in tape. I hope I've done one badly, as I have intermittent flashing of one side of the lights, I'll have a look at it on Saturday.

One final thing, I have the global closing enabled, and I find it a pain in the a%#e! In the hot weather, I sometimes want to leave the sunroof tilted, but the 3 second pulse of locking the doors just about shuts it - another thing to do on Saturday.
