well i have a ford galaxy 1996 2 litre automatic petrol that has a problem with the clutch in the gearbox . i have been to a specialist who told me the clutch was on its way out and that it would cost a

Try changing the ATF first. A garage will always tell you it's knackered because they want your money.

Is the problem the clutch slipping or very jerky gear changes?

If the latter try changing the gear box oil. I had the oil changed in my R reg 2.8 auto (172,000 miles)and now have smooth gear changes.

It is a difficult job for DIY; Ford say the oil should never need changing. A local garage charged

The 1996 2.0 Petrol Auto has a VAG Type-AG4 auto transmission (which is also used on the caravelle and other VAG cars/micro bus/vans).
