Hi guys,

We are due to replace our year 2000 galaxy in september,my 1.9 tdi has been ultra reliable and i have loved it.

We will be looking at buying something around 4 years old, anything major i should look out for?,i have also fleetingly looked at the s max,

any feedback greatly appreciated. :(

is your 2000 model, a MKI or MKII?? i know someone interested in buying a galaxy at the moment.

Personally, id go for the S max rather than a MKIII or even a later MKII would be good.

Thankyou,

On what basis would you choose the s max,and why steer away from the mk3,are the back two seats in the s max as sturdy as the back two in the gal mk 1.

To be honest, ive heard a lot of bad things about the MKIII Galaxy, but there is also some good i suppose.

For me, its not just the rattling overhead lockers, or the other things that have been reported, its also a cosmetic thing for me. I just dont like the MKIII. The S-max however, even though similar to the MKIII, looks far better to me. If i were to choose between an S-max, a MKIII Galaxy, or a MKII galaxy... I would more than likely go for an S-max.

I am unsure of the back seats in an s-max, but i know someone i can ask who transports all his model planes in his.

the smax is a dream to drive, once you are used to it.i keep stalling my missus 1 :(

more car like then van like the mk2,rear seats are i would say a bit better then whats fitted in the zafira,i wouldnt want to be in the back on a long journey.

front seats are very supportive.

mind you havnt got anywhere near the fuel economy as my mk2.

If you like your current Gal, how about replacing it with a late model Sharan or Alhambra, both of which made up until recently, thats my current plan when I get rid of my Galaxy in 2-3 years time.

The Smax does look better than Galaxy but the rear seats of the smax are for children only you wont get an adult in the back seats if you do they will find it very uncomfortbale.

On the other hand the Galaxy is a bigger car and it is designed to carry 7 adults.

Hi all,

Are you saying gregers that your tdci S-max isn't that economical by comparison to your mk2 tdi?

My wife is pushing for a change to the S-max (4 kids are still fairly small and won't grumble too much about the rear seats), there aren't many out there in the

yep,the s max (by the comp thingy)is averaging about 40mpg,where as my mk2 can be way above that.,

are the central row of seats the same on the Mk3 as the S-max? We normally use a 2,2,2 formation (with the central right seat taken out for ease of access). I only found out the other day how poor the 'fold flat' seats are in the S-max but am assuming that there must be a way for removing the seat /rails somehow.

dunno about that as we havnt tried to remove them, the rears fold flat completly.

The seats in the SMAX and the Galaxy are "fold flat" and not removable

Therefore if you want a 2+ 2+ 2 formation, you would fold the rear middle seat down and not remove it

I have the Mk111 galaxy (facelift model - After Oct 2010) the 140 bhp Diesel model

I think it is much better looking and more economical car than the Mkll 1.9Tdi i had for many years

I am averaging 44-45mpg on a longish (100 mile) journey, usually with 2 or 4 adults in the car
