Me and the wife have an 02 galaxy, a mk2 TDi LX. As we got the LX we didnt get a lot of bells and whistles and the main thing i miss the the MPG, range, temp etc etc. There is a space in the middle of the instrument cluster where it would usually be.

Has anybody fitted a different cluster and the associated stalk and got it to work? i just wondered as when i connect with vcds, all the readings are there, so in theory all the sensors should be?

Bump, anyone?

How did I miss this one

YES is the answer, all the readings are present and on some cars even the wiring is the place. The only thing you need is the replacement cluster from a similar year (avoid X and 51 plates as they had firmware bugs and post 53 clusters) - also make sure you get one that's from the same transmission as yours, (ie manual or auto) as they read the speed pulses differently. The stalk is just a swap over job, with possibly a few wires to run from it to the cluster if they aren't already in place.

Hey mate, thanks for the reply - appreciate it. It certainly would be a great upgrade from my point of view. I also have a full version of vagcom so im hoping that i can correct mileage on any new clocks (if it isnt done automatically) to what it should be.

When you say i could need to wire the stalk to the clocks, is there anywhere i can find out how to do this just in case? I wouldnt know where to start with a wiring diagram to be honest. I noticed you retrofitted a sharan clock - is this the most technically sophisticated version available? I would prefer one with a digital readout of range, mpg, outside temp etc if possible.

I had an A4 which had the same problem and just plugged and played for some of the newer clocks with no problems, so was hoping it would be simple. Good old VAG eh?

The Galaxy Ghia version has all of the functions you require, the benefit of the Sharan one is that is comes with two additional gauges for oil temperature and volts although your car is unlikely to have the sensor in place for the oil temperature so you'll also need a new sump and sender if you wanted that function. As said, all the other functions should be available by just upgrading the cluster - the only one that's going to need work should be the outside air temperature sender as the sender won't be present.

If you need the wiring then speak to me or Chris, we can both provide wiring diagrams should you need them :(

Vag-Com can't correct the mileage though, you'll need vag-tacho and a different cable for that!

Nice on thanks, ill take a look. I think ill just try and find a decent set of Ghia clocks then, im not that fussed about volts and a sump sender. Our clocks have a small crack in the bottom for some reason so i was looking to change them anyway :)

Off to the classified section it i then, thanks for the help.

Paul.
