My Galaxy Life Story

Hi folks,

 

kinda new here still.

 

Reecntly (3 days ago) bought my MK1 Galaxy Ghia X TDi 110 for

Total cost so far -

more than the car is worth probably! lol

Well here she is... the pictures actually do it justice!

The bonnet is very dented, and the tailgate is pushed in about 1.5" around the handle area and the rear washer has rusted through completely lol.

Also the back bumper is split open in a few places and way out of shape.

I'm going to tidy it up a little (plenty of filler lmao!) and respray it, i'd keep it same colour but as you can see the passenger side has been poorly painted with cans at some point - so just going to do a colour change on it!

 

Please bear in mind that it's going to be a 'quick' tidy up to make it respectable. I am not a mechanic or bodyshop dude by trade, I just like to tinker :lol:

 

If it was worth something, it'd be getting new panels and a propper respray... but for me, its filler, fibreglass and Rustoleum paint (basically smooth hammerite) through a fence painter lmao!

 

A true 'Scrappage Scheme Survivor' lmao!

I was gonna have a go at buying that exact same Galaxy

 

Im breaking a diesel in the same colour and intended replacing most of the damaged panels on it with the ones off my car .

 

Unfortunately the price you paid for it put me off bidding....small world eh :lol:

to be honest I wasnt going to bid anywhere near that, but in the last few minutes my girlfrined said she'd go halfers on it with me, so it threw a little more cash into the pot.

oh and thats not the reflection of the sky on the bonnet - its white/grey patchy and cracked spraycan paint!

She has certainly had a hard life hasnt she .

 

I forgot to say , the other reason I fancied her is because I have a white 2.3 Ghia X and its reg number is also a V*** JAV , so I thought it kinda weird how they were both registered in the same area (Peterborough I believe) and yet they both end up here in the North East .

twin JAVs would look cool, we'll get a pic of em together someday lol

 

its actually drives very tight and pretty much faultless... just the previous owner used it as a 'get to work car' (worked at the car sales they sold it from) - so just got bare minimum servicing (timing belt, oil change and brakes) had been done, bodywork etc wasnt important to him, long as it got to work safely lol.

oh its had an alternator and bottom arm recently too

Im not sure what make the wheels are to be honest....I bought them for my TDi .

bit quiet in here aint it!!

well - just peeled masking tape off - looks ok, nice shine straight out the little paint machine - should polish up a bit better.

Just need to clean the window rubbers up a bit where the pound shop masking tape hasnt stuck properly lol

 

I think if i had have prepped it properly it would have came out just about perfect... but it'll do me for a cheapo run about

Hi all,
Not been about for a while... 

Just though i'd update this, and say after a few years (and about 40k miles later) Betsy eventually died.

My dad was using her, and I think the turbo oil seals went, he said it was sounding very chuggy and very smoky. So she's been parked up on his driveway in Derby and will be laid to rest soon.

Such a shame as she's been a great vehicle for £500 - the only work she's needed is tyres and a few oil changes.
Paintwork is looking a bit rough now, as my dad used her for a site vehicle for a year.

Shes even been converted into a camper/dayvan, only has the two n/s rear seats in, the other has a full length bench with cupboards under it, leisure battery with split charge system,  extra lighting in rear, sink with electric tap/pump, few 12v outlests from leisure battery, and even a gas grill & hob!!

We are getting another soon...

IF anyone knows of a cheap and cheerful tdi (90 or 110bhp) going for sale, please PM me, or reply.

As you repair various parts of the vehicle take the time to snap photographs or record the work on video. Turn it into a tutorial. If you snap photographs you could make a book out of the whole process, or turn everything into a website and offer membership. If you take video you can certainly turn that into a very profitable membership website, or a video tutorial program. If you are going to do the work and create a life story why not take the time to turn it into a useful product for other MK lovers like those of us here!
