Hi Can anyone help me get the drivers door open on my Galaxy, it was playing up, but now can get drivers door open with key in lock or central locking via key - so how can I get the door open to fix the (presumably) electrics problem. VCDS tells me I have an open circuit on the drivers door and petrol cap lock.

cheers!

Have you tried opening from the inside or operating the central locking from the passenger side or tailgate?

Yea, have tried openning via the inside lever and also with key from passenger side.

All the other doors open but the drivers. What I can hear is a clicking from inside the door for about one minute then the central locking locks all the doors down again.

I dont know of there is a deadlock on the driver door that is electrically operated? - it sounds like its a mechanical problem like the motro is not engaging the lock - alot of whirring and clicking. But lookign thru the forum, I see that almost everyone is talking about about door loom wiring issues!

Yes AFAIK there is a deadlock which is electrically operated (or can be overided electrically). You can disengage the deadlock by operating the lock (in the "lock doors" direction) a couple of seconds after you lock the door. The indicators will flash twice to acknowledge that deadlocking is off (as well as the alarm).

Looks as if you may need to remove the door card. Dont know if it can be removed with the door closed, I think I read someone has done this, but not sure.

Seatkid - cheers - ok, thanks for that good hint on the deadlock - I'll try that in the morning and see if I can get the deadlock disengaged and get the door open. I can

make sure you undo the iirc 3 bolts that hold the handle on (mk2)

then you should be able to pull the door card upwards,

im sure theres a post on this in the faqs in the technical section.

my Mrs had the 'key stuck in the lock in the locked position' this afternoon. Door was deadlock shut and would not open from inside. Could open the car with spare key/blipper. I did take the card off with the door closed (tricky but not impossible) but I didn't need to and it was no help. The fault is at the back of the lock barrel, you need to remove the handle to get at it. This can be done with either a very long slender torx or an angled one. Either way, you have to get the rear door at just the right angle so that the torx key either angles in between the rear door and the driver door or from inside the car past the rear hinge. Once you get the torx screw out the handle pops out and you can fit new parts. Available from dealers for about
