2.3 Zetec Pinking Under Power

Can anyone make a suggestion. I just purchased a Galaxy Mk2 W reg 2.3 Zetec for towing.

Whilts the car seem fine on its own when I have the caravan on i dont seem to have much power and I am struggling to get to 60 and hold it, is fine at 55

when i excelerate the engine makes what i can only describe as a loud pinking / rattling, this goes if i back of the excelerator.

Also I dont semm to be able to get more than 3500 revs?

Car has just passed its mot with good gas readings, going to change the plugs, any other suggestions

Also i have an Airbag warning up on the dash and not sure whta to read it with.

might be one of these or somthing different

1 A defective spark plug or a failing coil pack

2 Mass air sensor

3 lamda sensor

 

You can scan the airbag with vagcom to get fault code even though it a ford engine.

someone said the clockspring's also known as squib's are around

Thanks for the response, have a new set of plugs so will give that a go first and have ordered a cable from good old ebay.

So will work through your list of suggestions
