hannahmegan Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Hello, I'm new hereHave had my Y-reg MkII 1.9TDi for 18 monthsDespite full service history the cam belt went last summer. I got a reconditioned engine fitted, hoping it would be a good investment and the car would see through a while... but... now disasters numbers 2 and 3 have struck: - left indicator is on the blink and twice i have had a problem restarting the car (ie after it has been running for a while then stopped a few moments) - it turns over and starts but immediately cuts out. Garage says it's the multifunction control unit causing indicator and imobiliser problems - garage has also identified a slight shudder on my clutch which he says is the clutch and fly wheel not immediately about to go, but in the next year His quote for new parts and labour for both these jobs (he is not ford dealer) is almost what I paid for the car in teh first place and he recommends trading it in as not worth throwing money at it. I really love this car and don't want to get rid of it (and also cannot afford another really) Please please tell me there are other options!!?? Quote

The best option is to take it to another dealer and ask them what they think it wrong - without telling them what the first guy said!. It's always worth getting a second opinion. I am not exactly sure what he means by the MFU - It could be a number of things causing the problems - However, I would suggest you check that your brake lights are working correctly - ( it may sound daft!) - If you have a broken bulb change it, or if they aren't working at all it may well be the brake light switch ( around Quote
