Guest Sach Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 Hi All, Recent problem where the fan keeps running well after the engine has been switched off. Almost sounds like the engine is still on! Recently kept going all night until the battery had run flat. I disconnected the battery, recharged it; and on re-connevting, the cooling fan start again. Sounds a bit rough...... Due to go back to Fords (!) to hook up to the diagnostics computer: anything to prevent the additional cost and inevitable time-wasting would be appreciated. Guest nimrod Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 You have either a duff sensor or relay, try pulling the fan run on relay (k151) its located in the fuse box in the engine bay, I think with this relay disconnected the fans will still run when needed with the ignition switched on when the coolant temp rises you could buzz out the relay and check that its contacts are not welded closed! and you could check the operation of the coolant temp sensors! the sensor that runs the fan can be mounted in a couple of places! its either in the radiators top hose or on the radiator itself or on the thermostat houseing? if you can get to any of these sensors try unplugging them one at a time and see if the fans stop running when the ignition is switched off Quote
Guest Sach Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 Hi Thanks for the post. Had a call from Ford: They have their eyes on the A/C unit: said it was low on gas, have re-charged it. Following your posting made sure they have checked relays etc -no probs there. Talking about a potential problem with the compressor. I have made it clear they should check wiring looms etc before expecting me to cough up for new compressor. Next update tomorrow. Guest Sach Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 Ford Hounslow now believes the problem lies either with the compressor or the climate control module. They don't have the expertise to diagnose exactly where the problem is and are recommending I take the car to their main dealership in Alperton. Any insights greatly appreciated !cheers Sach Quote
