We have an old '97 Galaxy without roof rails. I've just bought a set of Thule roof rails off ebay with the adaptor set for a Galaxy. These should clamp onto the frame over the doors on both sides. Is there any particular place on the frame where they should clamp, or can they go anywhere along the door frame? We also have a '95 VW Golf and this has markings on the frame where you need to fit the clamps, but there is nothing like that on the Galaxy.

Thanks,

Andy

Hi

I bought a set of rails for my 98 si galaxy but they were direct replacements from a breakers.

Anyway, if you release the head lining, you'll expose some gromets which cover a threaded hole i recall. Just check out a galaxy with rails and you'll know roughly where to look.

if you are talking about the gutterless feet adapters for the roof bars then there is a position for them.

when i had the same it was over the front and rear doors. there may be a guide on their web site?

Thanks for your reply Peter but unfortunately I think you may have misunderstood my question. My Galaxy doesn't have rails (the ones that go front to back) and I'm not trying to fit rails. I'm trying to fit roof bars (that go side-to-side) that clamp onto the door frame. I'm just not sure if there is a need to clamp them in a particular spot or if they can go anywhere along the frame. Thanks anyway.

There are no markings, its all done purely by measurements if you don't have the factory bars.

Read the attached instructions for all the specific measurements:

1040.pdf

If you do want to fit the factory rails then it is as simple as Peter says - I have a set knocking about you can have for the price of postage if you (or anyone else) wants.
