hello doing brakes on my galaxy done front brakes easily used no special tool.now doing the rear and i can,t get the piston to go back i,ve been using 6inch g clamp but it,s not moving at all (does the piston need to rotate clockwise as i,m pushing in the g clamp?)Also theres dfferent views on here about undoing the bleed nipple is this necessary thanks

Yes you need to rotate the piston (not sure if it is clock/inti-clockwise) but you need a wind back tool, (as they call it) there is a couple

of types, but you can get a simple one car only unit, and a kit that does all cars, I think they are about

Yes you have to wind the rear piston clockwise (IIRC) while applying pressure. Virtually impossible without a wind back tool. Available from GSF, Halfords, fleabay etc etc. I got the Laser Wind back Tool from GSF for under £20 a few years back. It only takes seconds with the tool and avoids damaging the rubber boots.

 

You should open the bleed nipple when pushing pistons back, all the crap will come out instead of going back up the line into pressure limiters/ABS blocks. Also you can damage/flip seals in the master cylinder/ABS block by pushing back fluid.

 

Finally you always should bleed the brakes as the last op to remove air locks and flush any crap out.

If your calipers done rotate or move back, then you've got a seized caliper.

I wouldn't bother installing seal kits etc - I'd just replace a faulty caliper.

 

As mentioned by Seatkid, the wind back tools is fairly cheap.

 

Spray some WD40 on the rubbers before winding back.
