gareth237 Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 Hi All, Hope someone can help me, so far this forum has been a fountain of knowledge for me having recently bought a 2.8 VR6 galaxy auto. I'll be changing the drive shafts with the help of a friend on Tuesday, I known that the drive shafts bolts are M10 x 20. Does any body know is they are torx or allen key and if they need tightening to a specific torque. Thank you, Gareth. :) Quote
sparky Paul Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 (edited) IIRC, driveshaft to auto gearbox flange bolts are spline head. Torque to 59 ft lbf (80Nm). The driveshaft to hub end bolts are normal hex head. However, you must use stretch (yielding) bolts, and they must be renewed on reassembly... new driveshafts, CV joints and wheel bearing sets often come complete with new bolts, I obtained some from the dealer when I needed them. Torque to 111 ft lbf (150 Nm), then angle tighten a further 90° Edited April 9, 2011 by sparky Paul Quote
dipsomaniac Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 if mk1 and replacing n/s driveshalf you will need to remove sensor on side of autobox to gain clearance to remove shalf. you will then have to replace transmission fluid lost when the sensor is removed Quote
gareth237 Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 Thanks for the replies! Really glad I checked with you guys, the main dealer said either Torx or allen key. Just had a quick look underneath and know what a spline screw head looks like now. I'd better get down to the shop and buy the right tool. Thanks again. Gareth. Quote
