supracapri Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 I have read a few posts on here about removing the cv joint (nearside outer) and all say to remove cv joint from hub. Is it not possible to just remove the drive shaft from the cv joint whilst the cv joint is still attatched to the hub??? Quote
sparky Paul Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 It would be difficult, the joint needs a pretty firm thump to disengage the circlip which holds it on. With the weight of the strut and hub attached, I don't think this would be easy, and you would risk damaging the wheel bearing. As you would have to disconnect the bottom ball joint anyway to split the joint from the driveshaft, it's not much more of a job to remove the driveshaft bolt and pull the driveshaft from the hub too. Remember to use a new driveshaft bolt on reassembly as they should not be reused. Quote
