andy_iw Posted April 5, 2011 Report Posted April 5, 2011 Hi everyone, I've got a major issue with my 99 Galaxy (2.3l manual). A few months back I walked back to my car having left it for 20 mins to find the central locking not working. After manually unlocking the door I put the key in the ignition but it was as if there was no battery connected. Without me doing anything (other than climbing out the car) it magically came back on and everything was fine. Needed to put the radio code in so I wasn't imagining it, but given that it only happened once I ignored it to a certain extent. Then this morning... 1. After 2 hours driving the windscreen wipers just stopped mid screen. No sign of life. This has never recovered, although I'm keeping an open mind as to whether this is related to the next issue... 2. About 20 minutes after the above happening the car simply turned off as it had done a few months back when slowing at lights (although I can now add that hazards still work), but otherwise it's as if the key is out the ignition and the battery is removed. After a couple of minutes it came back to life as before. This happened a further two or three times in the next 10 minutes. Each time I did nothing to get the power to come back on (other than curse the bloody thing). Any ideas? A bit of googling suggests that it might be either a battery junction (fuse) box issue but I can't see this, or an earthing issue (for which I believe there's a fairly major earth near the gearbox but I can't find that although I haven't jacked the car up to get under properly). Help!! Any suggestions (aside from 'sell it quick') gratefully recieved. Andy Quote
andy_iw Posted April 5, 2011 Author Report Posted April 5, 2011 *** Update *** So I've just gone out to the car now to try to trace the windscreen wiper fault but annoyingly the wipers have now started working. Good in that they're now working. Bad in that the fault is intermittent, possibly due to water ingress or another fault altogether and may fail again the next time it rains. Or before. Quote
