fatblokes Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 hi all, firstly i would like to say a big hello to everyone, i have posted before but failed to say hello so HELLO! Now, i now have a 2.8 v6 manual 96 p reg galaxy, i got this as my 2.8 auto let me down, the car runs really well and all seams good but the temperture seams a bit warm compared to my last galaxy's i have had. in the past i have had 3 galaxy's 1 a 2.3 and 2 being 2.8 all of them have always had the temperture needle sit in the middle of the word norm on the dash but this one seams to sit on the m of the word norm or just past. the fan does kick in but it dont seam to kick in as often as the others i have had, could it be the sensor that is on the rad or does any body think there could be something else wrong? i still have a complete car with a 2.8 engine with 82,000 miles on it so i have a lump if i need one but i was hoping it may be something less drastic. also you can smell it is a bit warm. the oil temperture sits around 113 is this norm? i have never noticed this on my others.thanks in advance Quote
cyborg Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 The vr6 does run hot ! 113 is not unusal however there are a few things you can check .. Fansswitch on aircon do fans come on if notcheck 40 amp fuses engine bay nearside box beside shock piller if ok Remove undertray if exists.. then look for green resister behind water bottle plug at green resister connect up battery and measure both connections are giving 12v its not uncommen green resister to fail.fan should come on around 86 degrees there are 5+ phases to fans dependent on auto or manual. Temp sensorsThe main temp sensor is black half way down rad you can uplug and test by putting a wire across connection 1+2 and 2+3 fans should come on on both phases its a bit tight to get to easly done by removing top rad hose. The three other sensors are ;yellow - additional water pump, run on pump blue - sends temp to dash + ecubrown - A/C fan ThemostatCheck the lower rad pipe is stone cold until the temp gauge reaches the half way point, if it gets lukewarm straight away then the thermostat is stuck open or missing, if it stays cold then it is stuck shut. WaterpumpLook for a trickle of coolent below it ,a sure sign its on way out, if all above works then flush system then if still not low live with it or change waterpump . Vagcomyou can have a look and see if run on pump has had it also check temp see if dash speaks with forked tongue  Quote

fatblokes Posted April 6, 2011 Author Report Posted April 6, 2011 hi again cyborb, i had another look today, and as a precaution changed both the resitor and the fan control relay from my other car and noticed one of the fans was not coming on (the top one) so i swopped both of the vans also, i have fans running now if i put the air con on but the temp still gets warm, the bottom hose is not getting hot so i think it is now the thermostat. on that not the fans still do not seam to kick in early, could this be as the temp sensor on the rad is on the bottom hose side? i will pop out and get a thermostat but do you think it may be worth changing the temo sensor also while the coolant is drained?thanks for you help Quote
