u664541 Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Hi, my wifes 130 TDi (2003/53 72k) was mis-fuelled today. My wife drove about 1/4 mile before the Gal conked out - the car was pretty much running on fumes before it was filled up btw..... Anyway, the AA are coming tomorrow to drain the fuel tank, do some magic (hopefully!) and re-fuel with diesel. My question is - wht are the chances of a successful fix or is the engine kaputt? If so, what are the options - new car??? Thanks in advance to any advice. Quote

u664541 Posted March 25, 2011 Author Report Posted March 25, 2011 Result! The AA drained the tank and fuel filter - then refuelled with diesel + additive and "Hey Presto!"it fired back into life. Phew! Quote

Could you tell me if there was a charge,I did it in my old (97 115TDi) Gal and stopped at 1/4 tank finished with diesel and all was well.I thought AA RAC charged for misfuelling would like to be proved wrong Quote

andyfishing Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Okay now what I would do in your situation. Diesel runs past the piston rings and gets in the oil. So do a full service, oil and filter. Change the fuel filter (it is only couple of pounds). Change the spark plugs (upgarde them I would) and while you are at it change the air filter. I would put some 10K boost through the engine or at very least some injector cleaner. Maybe two bottles of Redex as well. Now that should make sure you have no problems. If you get a misfire on a cylinder you can damage the valve or one of the seats. It is not worth it -you then have to have the head off. Andy Quote
edatelder Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Andyfishing, it was a diesel car that was wrongly fuelled with petrol. So it won't have spark plugs or diesel in the oil. Quote
andyfishing Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Mm okay - I accidently misread petrol etc. I would though change oil and filter to be on the safe side and put injector cleaner through. Andy Quote
