Guest BagPuss Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 Well, It never worked when we bought it. If I'd found this site sooner then maybe I'd have a few idea's of what to look for. Didn't realise the Galaxy was renowned for Air Con failures. I asked if it had been re-gased and he said, he wasn't sure, but reading more into these posts I'm thinking well if it hasn't worked in the 3-4 months we've had it then............ Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006
Don't like giving bad news but mine never worked and then one day it just obliterated into a zillion pieces. I wonder how many total failures come because of a system that has not worked for a long time eventually giving up all togehter. I wonder if the poll was split into total failure but was working ok at the time of failure total failure and was not working before either what the results would look like. Hope all goes well and you don't go down the same road as most around this site.
Or: Total Failure - Serviced regularly Total Failure - Never been serviced ever. Quote
jkspoff Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 Hopefully will get mine back today with working A/C, they have to provide 12 months warranty with it for the warranty company to pay out to them direct, so at least a years worth of cold air..........hopefully. Replaced so far: 1. Compressor - 12 months ago 2. Condensor - yesterday 3. Three way pressure switch on pipe 4. Another re-gas and pressure check Total - Quote
jkspoff Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 Ok, anyone know if the pipes at the front of the Galaxy for the A/C should run hot or cold, pre condensor seems hot, post condensor seems cold, i.e. as you look into the engine bay, the gas refill pipe on the right is running hot, the gas refill pipe on the left is running cold, there seems to be some confusion at the garage regarding this, even after speaking with an air con specialists ? Other than that after vaccuming out the system and re-weighing the gas/oil after running for a while all seems well, no flashing panel on CC panel and cold air blowing. Is there anything else I should get them to check before accepting the work and signing it off in anyone elses experience ??? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 The thick pipe should be cold to the compressor from the evaporator, the thin pipe from the compressor to the condensor should be hot. Damn hot. Too hot to touch. Quote

katman Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006
Finally gonna put mine into the Garage. Found a little garage in a village on the way to work, Quote
mumof4 Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 Even though my cc flashes like a bloke in an anorak, when it finally stops and i have it on low and the blowers up high..its like an arctic breeze!!.had it on yesterday then wen i got out the car the heat that hit me was horrendous.i had the cc on and the windows open,or closes as i was colder that way. katman Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006
had it on yesterday then wen i got out the car the heat that hit me was horrendous
When I first found this forum a couple of years ago having just bought the Galaxy, the first thing I read about was Aircon problems. We went for a drive to Norwich with Sharon driving and me constantly checking the air coming out of the vents. It was cold but not "freezing" and car was comfortable but not "well chilled". When we arrived in Norwich and stepped out of the car, it was like that feeling you get stepping off the plane at Alicante airport. I then realised that the aircon was doing its job but that it was such a hot day (middle of august) and without it we would have been cooked. Being a hayfever sufferer I cant drive with the windows open Quote
Masked Marauder Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006
Went out in the car yesterday with the thermometer from the kids room. Temperature of the air from the vents was 9C with the aircon on and blower on 4. Without aircon on the temperature was about 25C
It was about 32 degrees yesterday, so your aircon is bang on spec for an R134a system. Quote
seatkid Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 I'll see your bump and raise you one...... Quote

Steveenduro Posted July 17, 2006 Report Posted July 17, 2006 Some you win, some you loose! The air con on my 2000 TDi 115 packed up about 4 years ago. Ford started talking figures of Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted July 17, 2006 Report Posted July 17, 2006 Steve, Given that this an aircon thread I strongly suggest you post the exhaust question separately! Best of luck with the aircon!!! Regards. Oggy. Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted July 17, 2006 Report Posted July 17, 2006 Snap - things started to go wrong within weeks of my 'no problem' vote!! Keep smiling! Quote
shepheap Posted July 17, 2006 Report Posted July 17, 2006 Took mine to my local garage on Friday as the air con did not seem as cool as it coul have been. Evacuated the system, vacuum test etc for about 45mins. Found that only 10% of gas had been lost over 3yrs!!!!! Cooling problem was due to lack of air flow.... the pollen filter was blocked! Despite this the vents were being chilled to 1.5 deg C. Garage wanted 1hr labour to change hte pollen fileter so I had a go myself following the instructions from this site. Easy to get hte filter out but a sod to get back. In the end I fed the filter back in to the housing without the frame and then fed the frame in and joined the 2 together in situe. Much easier. Much cooler now. Change the filter regularly! Quote
Tonyk Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 My Aircon started flashing while on holiday in france although it seemed to function normally no complaints from wife/kids even driving in 35 degrees still nice and cool even though we only have Single Cimate control not the version withdual control to rear passengers. Anway on return to UK I decided perhaps it only needed a top up so spent the Quote
jkspoff Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 I would be tempted from experience to get it checked out straight away, as the flashing panel has always followed with expensive component failures, I believe this could sometimes be avoided if the fault is diagnosed early enough, i.e. low pressure leading to compressor failure, or leaking from condensor etc. Its worth the Quote
Bandito Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 Air con gave up a week after buying Gal from fraud dealership, a phone call later vehicle was picked up from my work and a fiesta left in its place later that day it was returned with a new compressor, this time air con lasted 3 months, again a call to dealership same again vehicle picked up etc etc, this time new condencer, came back nice and cold for about 4 weeks.I found when out side temp. was above 30 degs. the compressor was cutting in and out and only warm air coming from vents when temp. dropped below 30 degs air con worked fine again, another phone call they said "they would collect it and get an expert to look at it". They have fitted a new compressor saying the bearings had gone in the one that was fitted earlier this year, have had it back for 2 weeks and its the best its ever been sorry this is a bit long winded Quote
pompadour Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 i have had small leak, fixed - warranty, half day job then i had condencer unit fail at coupling - warranty fix... all day job falshing cc display - in for re gas and test - waranty all okay over 24 hrs at dealer. moved it for half hour failed again back to dealer and he fills it with some lub of sorts, well the contracted specialist they got in did, BINGO, fault, hole in pipe as touched by dealer when re fixing to new condencer unit.... NO rubber sleve protector between pip, clip and engine bay.... again total failure, two days in dealer, fault = their tech has not done yet another coupling up properly repair seems to have been bodged and teh condencer joint is goonered, neds replacing again.... whole day job ENOUGH!!!!!! much yelling shouting, more yelling, meeting with the MD etc, RESULT .>>>> car back loaded to Dagenham for a 100% AC refit..... job done! Three nice new scratches and dents in wing and door. Get car back from body repair, AC failed, didplay flashing again.... test shows dye from a hole in a new pipe caused by some monkey at their body shop when reconecting battery after respary they say. Only now do I feel it may finaly be fixed.... saying that... it will go t1ts up tomorrow no doubt! You just have to get under their skin so it seems! Oh and I got the dealship principles Focus ASBO for four days as well.... darn thing wheel spins in 4th if you try hard enough! Now for the p155 take.... new car sales call to say my car seems to have been in for quite a lot od warranty work and had I considered changing it for maybe a s-max or a new new galaxy..... FFS! Fraud service... utter shoite! Rant over Quote
seatkid Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 So then, apart from that, no other problems...... Quote
Trigz Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 The air con has never worked properly since buying the car over three years ago! compressor siezed about ten months or so after purchase (out of warrenty as usual!!) changed compressor and reciever drier, recharged and worked for a little while when it felt like it. Then at service 18 months ago notified of leak from pipes, pipes changed and another recharge, still only working when it feels like it!! damn thing !! It has worked more often than not this summer but still isnt right, got suspicions about clutch soleniod or pressure switch!! will hopefully sort it out with a little help from you friendly people !!
