shefki Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 Just been on my anual hols in the south of France. Last Wednesday went out for an evening meal after the car had been in the 35degC heat all day. After about 2 minutes I noticed the car was still hot and thye air from the vents warm. Had dinner and went back to base and problem still the same. Next day, booked car into local ford service centre (not a dealer) for a system check and recharge. On collecting the car, and parting with Quote
seatkid Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 But at least it's a holiday you'll remember! I think a lot of the problems are actually just pipe/o-ring leaks...... Quote
faded-fish Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 I've had no problems with my air con - I don't have any!!! Quote
Gadgetoid Posted July 2, 2005 Report Posted July 2, 2005 Anyone tried these guys? Wrong side of London for me, but still tempted by someone who says they specialise in Galaxy evaporators http://www.carairconditioning-gatwick.com/index.html Of course, they may just have twigged the amount of work involved and look on it as a cash cow Quote
Guest BIGLOX Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 I think that the fact that there have been 7164 views of this subject speaks volumes for the fact that the Galaxy AC is C**p ! This must be dam near a record for "views" is it not ? Quote
MrT Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 I think this poll should be modified to allow you to change your vote. I voted no problems, but this has now changed and the ******* has stopped chucking out cold air. The compressor is still working and engages and disengages as expected, VAG-COM detects no errors in the climate control, so it looks like a loss of refrigerant. Quote
Guest stormchaser Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 My AC has been loosing gas too. Added a can of red dye (from Ebay) and have finally found the leak. The Aluminium pipe that runs from the compressor and under the drivers side chassis leg towards the bulkhead is secured with steel clips. The clips have rubber sleeves but the pipe has still corroded where the steel clip surrounds it and I have a pin hole leak. Hoping that a new section of pipe can be spliced in. Quote
MrT Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 Well I have topped the system up and have a little cooling back, I don't want to go to far and overfill it. This should do me for my holidays until I can get what I assume is a leak found and fixed. Oddly enough the flashing of my console was caused by a speed sensor error. I have reset this with VAG COM. Guest connor Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 Can anyone recommend a good Ford auto electrician who understands aircon?. My local Ford main dealer has no idea. I had the aircon specialist out last week to an intermittent problem with my aircon - the compressor works, sometimes!! When it works everything is wonderful, but it doesn't always work. The gas pressure was ok, no leaks. The diagnosis was the electromagnetic switch on the compressor. So I waited for the part and shelled out my Quote
Guest ratherhaveanewone Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 Condenser Failure - leaking - common problem on early mark II's Easy to spot though ! Quote
hitchhiker Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 Just added my recent ACU failure to the current poll I guess i'm as guilty as the majority for not using it regularly during colder months of the year. Perhaps now paying the price for this. And if that wasnt bad enough, the missus, me & 3 offspring are off to Austria in the Gal later this week. Needless to say no garage would even look at the AC at such short notice. However after reading about other owner's experiences (ie. woes) im reluctant to hand the car over to a garage until i can be more confident that it wont make me bankrupt to repair. I have a 2000W (Mk1) 1.9tdi Zetec model with manual AC which has never been re-gassed. What doesn't work when i press the AC switch (air temp control dial): 1. No cool air (obviously) 2. No decrease in rpm running at idle What does work when i press the AC switch (air temp control dial): 1. The AC indicator light (very reassuring) 2. The 2nd (lower) rad cooling fan comes on immediately Suggests to me that: 1. System is pressurised enough to permit fan operation (or is it too dumb to do otherwise?) 2. Compressor clutch not engaging I'm hoping it might just be a diy'able relay or sensor failure but not having much luck even locating the relevant (auxillary?) fuse/relay box using the Haynes manual. ANy other ideas anyone? HH Quote
Guest seatalhambra Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 garage 'gassed' and checked my system charged Quote
Guest Silverman Posted November 20, 2005 Report Posted November 20, 2005 No problems with A/C to date - very effective at all times. I do run it all year round as experiance has shown that this keeps things sweet. My only issue is that the fan for the front of the car only works on full pelt, anything else is just to weak. I have the auto function that tries to keep to a set temp. rear contro;s seem fine. It is due a 60,00 soon so expect to have to have the system re gassed. have had 2 other gals with A/C and no problems with these. fingers crossed... silverman Quote
Guest rippedoffandangry Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 I had a leak repaired and the ford garage. they didn't even check once they had regassed it whether the aircon was working, ran it for a day and then took it back. They then phoned me and said that the compressor had failed and could i give them more money to fix it. Well I let them fix it and refused to pay, they sent me many letters demanding money, then eventually gave up. Robbing B******s. PJ Quote

chevron169 Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Agree with Rich. Mine is also 2.3 with 99k miles '97. CC has been good never had regas etc. Occasionally smells a bit, occasionally heats when turned off but usually returns to normal when flicked on and off quickly ! Quote

MrT Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 Is there anyone there with a bit of time on their hands who would like to raise this issue with BBC Watchdog? I am sure this has been mentioned before. Quote

g4hlf Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 I had a new compressor fitted when my Galaxy 1.9TDI was just over three years old. This was as a result of it not chilling at all and was noticed during the first warm period of last year during April. The comressor was fitted by a BT Fleet garage agter a number of previous visits where they swapped one thing or the other, regassed etc. I can also add the the climate control unit started flashing for 10s once the ignition was turned on indicating a fault. This compressor lasted about a month when the aircon failed again! Further visits to BT Fleet (Reading) resulted in me insisting that they take the vehicle to a Ford Dealer (Reg Vardey in Reading). Compressor changed again and it was ok for the rest of the summer. I leave it on auto all year and did test it the other week where it was blowing cold air aorund 5c. So I am on my third compressor but fortunately have not had to pay for any of them. Quote
teresa Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 mine aint worked since i had it in november but gonna get it regassed to see if thats problem Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 Had a problem with a crack in a hose, leading to loss of gas etc etc. Cost Quote
steve67car Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 insissed on gas up when i brought mine in aug last year and had no problems the garage even sent the bloke out to me so i know it had been done Quote
broom broom Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 only problem i've had with the aircon is the bearing in the pulley and to repair that according to the fraud dealer i had to change the compressor but i was fortunate enough to find a site that supplied me a bearing and that did tha job Quote
Guest lankytony Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 had mine for 3 weeks and the belt snapped due to the compressor ceasing, just sourcing a compressor at the mo been costed at Quote
