Grandad Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Recently had my Galaxy 2.8 V6 re-gassed at Kwik Fit. Having previously pumped out warm air, after re-gassing, the centre vent temp went down to 8 C so it was much cooler than before. Just out of intterest how cool should it get? Also the mechanic at Kwit Fit re-gassed the system through the single port right in the front of the engine bay. He said he didn't have to get access to the other port behind the o/s/f indicator as he could do it all from the one port - although it would be slower. Kwik Fit re-gassed it with 950g. Is this correct? The Gal has c/c with temp & fan control buttons for front and back - is this dual control? Thanks Grandad Quote

Thanks Grandad temps given here on post 162 of this topic amount should be on a plate in the engine compartment gals with c/c have dual control for front/back but this is not neccessarily dual air con though Quote
Taliska Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Oh well, my A/C's just gone now - had it regassed yesterday when it had its MOT, and they said it was 'cold' when tested. Come to pick up the car this afternoon - nice hot day - aircon is pushing out slightly cool air. Something's still bust. What with driveshaft just repaired, front NS drop-link just repaired, I guess it's time for a massive clobbering on the A/C... Oh dear :-( Taliska Quote
Taliska Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Garage didn't manage to diagnose it this afternoon - they said that it started working briefly then stopped again when they next looked. Anyone any ideas which of the several A/C bits might be bust? Taliska Quote
M@X Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 The a/c on my old galaxy (1998 2ltr Aspen) worked perfectly for the 3-4 years that I owned it, I never even had to have the gas topped up. I've now upgraded (private sale) to a 2001 2.3 ghia but the air-con isn't working :19: the unit flashes for approx 15 seconds which reading this board, I now know indicates a fault. I took it to my local garage who have re-gased it and says there are no leaks but are unable to diagnose further as I need an auto electrian. I'm getting nothing at all, no light on the dash no nothing. I've checked the fuses inside and the ones by the battery, is there anything else I might be able to check myself ? I certainly can't afford the Quote
Taliska Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Have retrieved the Galaxy from the garage - need to find an Aircon Specialist somewhere round Southampton - any recommendations? Cheers, Taliska Quote
zeplin43 Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 Guys had mine regased after 2 years(2 Quote
geoff_s Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 I've just got back from Kwikfit and after a re-gas, no change. I still have the flashing panel & no cold air. Luckily I didn't have to pay as there was no difference in air temperatures before & after - Kwikfit policy. Oh well at least I know it's not a gas problem, one thing to eliminate  Quote
torvil Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 On my old Galaxy a/c was inoperative when purchased. Aircon engineer noticed that the compressor clutch had come off and was missing. "nd hand clutch from VW Golf fitted and regassed and worked happily ever after for 14 months prior to exchanging for my current Galaxy which touch wood.................................. Quote
Taliska Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 (edited) Twas a leaking Condenser - all fixed and cool again. Oh, now the remote key seems not to work very reliably... Ford quoted about Edited June 30, 2008 by Taliska Quote
big_kev Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 (edited) Ford are ripping you off. All you need is a new key....in fact only the remote part of it.....loads on ebay. You can swap the blade and chip from the old one and reprogramme the remote part in about 10 seconds extremely simply just using the key and your doorlock. Check the link to the faq in my sig. I am assuming that yiou have replaced the battery in the key ? Edited June 30, 2008 by big_kev Quote
Taliska Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 Hi big_kev, Yes, I replaced the battery as soon as I noticed that it was going silly - sadly didn't seem to make much (if any) difference. It just seems mighty odd that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't - the little LED still lights on the fob... Will check the link. :-) I was thinking not to get it fixed, because as soon as I do, something else seems to go wrong immediately. Cheers, Taliska Quote
mikej Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 (edited) Yet again aircon has lost its gas and guess what my condensor is stuffed just put a little pool of light oil into the plastic tube which contains the reciever/drier( fitted the lefthand side of condensor under plastic cap) and its fizzing a treat , takes about 3-4 weeks to loose all gas and cause a flashing control panel but its deffo leaking from here . Alhambra Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 i, myself, replaced the low pressure air con pipe of my wife Alhambra this evening. It cost me Quote
madscouser Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 I have had nothing but trouble with mine for over a year, had parts replaced and regassed, then few months ago it went again, bought a can of refill from Halfords (40 quid robbing bas*****) any way as soon as i put it in all was well until hisssssssssss, theres a hole in a pipe just below offside headlight unit.strip it all down, I could still not get to it, so out came the hacksaw and started cutting away, finally found the hole and repaired it with a spring connector and rubber patch with some cement compound, basically like a puncture repair kit for bikes, all is well now just need more of that expensive refill!!! Grrrr Quote

manny Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 We need to do something about this aircon problem. As Seatkid has mentioned on an aircon post it would be useful to see how many people have had problems. Those who have had problems also need to contact BBC Watchdog to get this issue out to the public as I'm sure there are other people who don't come to this forum who have had aircon problems with their Shalaxys. Hi, I've just bought a Galaxy tdi Ghia and the aircons not working, just hot air and the climate panel is flashing for 15secs then going out, on other cars i've noticed the compressor clicking on and off when aircon is used on this one I can't here this click. Does climate model compressors have to click in as well or not ? RegardsManny Quote
