dazbo12 Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Just wondering if any one could help.... my problem is I have steam coming from the oil filler cap whene removed, the car doesn't seem to be overheating and no smoke coming from the exhaust (only on cold starts) it does have a bit of milky scum under the cap .. my car is a 2001 1.9tdi gal. Any help would be greatfull... Quote
edatelder Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 It can be normal to have some steam coming from the cap if the engine has just warmed up when you remove it. Milky scum (emulsion) comes if you do lots of cold, short runs like the school run or commuting only 10 miles or less. You need a long, hot drive e.g. a motorway trip. Change the oil with a good PD 10W/40 oil every 10 000 miles or less at least once a year. Quote

dbc Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Or the head gasket has gone and you've got coolant water mixing with the oil. Quote

Where did those replies come from? Weren't there when I hit reply. lol Edited March 21, 2011 by Natt Quote
