Spotted a couple of Alhambra with an extra spoiler type thingy on the top of the bonnet.

Not usually into this kind of thing, but it is oem. The previous owner of my car must of butchered the plastic trim below the screen. Therefore it rattles at speed.

When I spotted this spoiler thing, i thought that it might just stop the rattling.

Will it retrofit onto my car and does anyone else have them?

Picture i found on web of an Alhambra with the small spoiler or trim. Must just attach to the top of the bonnet.

was going to say they usually have them but your sorted anyway. They(mine anyway) is textured and seems to stop the water blowing from the bonnet Its quite faded now(nearly 7 years) and I tidy it up with bumper black.

Its a sharan/alhambra thing - the galaxy has a different scuttle cover and panels so the extender thats attached to the bonnet isn't needed. Its only the late 05> (IIRC) gal's that have this style.

Do you know if it can be retro fitted?

I would have thought so, its held be fixing holes that should be present on all the bonnets but I would imagine you'll also need the scuttle and wiper spindle surrounds.

Well to update: The main part is in, there are some benefits to this upgrade apparent already.

Firstly the old version is made up of 3 pieces, on both my Mk2's these have rattled about over uneaven roads and the center panel squeeks against the glass. The new version is one long piece that's clamped down by the wiper arms, the weather seal on either side and by a clever U shape piece of plastic that cups the bottom of the windscreen itself - the whole thing in rock solid when refitted.

Secondly, the way water is collected and dispursed seems to be greatly improved with it being clearly directed down towards the scuttle drains rather then being allowed to splash down and soak everything including the pollen filter!

Finally, on the old one the center section is held in place with a big metal panel and theres a fair bit of weight to this - its no longer required with the new version and the more sloped profile has reduced wind noise rather more noticeably then I was expecting :)

The strip that fixes to the top of the bonnet was sadly been broken in transit so I'm now on the scrounge for another but its looks to fit just fine and its not unsightly without it. I'm not convinced that the bulkhead divider and seal havn't been revised either for the newer version so I'll have to take a look at the parts catalogues when I'm back from the pub!

Have you also found out if any other parts have been modified for this upgrade such as the seal to the bulkhead as you mentioned?

Cheers

No, its been on the back burner for a while and there is a chance that I won't need the galaxy for a daily commute anymore in which case she may be retired and a V6 4Motion sharan bought into the equation for fun

I didn't manage to find another bonnet strip so thats on order from a main dealer at the moment -

Blimey, most people go the other way. Once they have had a V6, they want a diesel.

When I bought our's, it was the only 4motion for sale on the trader so there is not much choice out there.

I only bought our's for the spec that comes with a v6. You get all the toys and having 4 wheel drive is the icing on the cake. My last 2 cars have been 4 wheel drive, you just get used to the traction off the line. No front spin at all.

If a mint 03 reg (I think they stopped the 4motion's on the 03.) tdi 4motion came along with the right spec, I might be tempted to ditch the V6, but I think I would have to have it re mapped to give it a bit more oomph.

Photo's would be great if you can. I took my scuttle plate and wiper surrounds off on Monday because they are so loose, all the clips are pretty shot at and it sounds like this upgrade would be a better solution all round.

Well they only did the TDI with the 115 engine, for some reason no 130 and I just feel that's gonna be a bit underpowered. I know what you mean about the lack of options out there, I've seen 2 in the last two months -ones about 2k more then its worth (X reg, 112K @ 6K!) and the other was over 160K miles so I'm gonna be hunting for a while - coupled with the fact that I 100% want xenon lights again I may never find one lol. As a question whats the real world MPG like? If it can crack 20 then I'll be happy - its likely to do less then 5K miles a year if its no longer being used for commuting anyway.

The panels due on friday so I'll take the photo then when I fit it

24mpg every day without fail. Long term is on 23.9 mpg, this includes winter which I used to start it up and leave it to warm up. Not forgetting lights on full, heater blower, heated seats, heated screen and rear window.

Pop down to the shops though, which we should walk it but never have enough time, and you can only see 18 mpg. This is the exception though.

Going to France in a couple of weeks. I am hoping to see 28-30 mpg. If we need the roof box thats going to go down to 26-28 mpg. (Roof box will be easier to access with the new springs fitted though  .)

I'd love xenons, but it was not a deal breaker for me. The car was perfect for us with another little one on the way. My old Golf V6 4motion had xenons. I liked them, (think they look great because they are different) but never thought they were that much better than halogen with decent bulbs. Maybe the Golf needed new bulbs as apparently they do go dimmer over the years, I had it for nearly 6 years without changing headlight bulbs.

Thats certainly true, I put new lamps in this one about 2 months after we got it as one was a slightly different colour (yes I know I'm anal lol) and they were noticeably brighter then - its more the clarity and contrast they provide then the brightness though but again its down to personal preference and circumstance. We do a lot of night driving and compared to the golf (which is 8 years newer) I always arrive home feeling less exhausted when I've used the gal.

Anyway, we digress! Photo time:

And a full fruntal (oh-er) to finish:

Observations? Well I drove the car for about 2 weeks without the deflector attached and I can't say it's really needed other then to tidy the job up a bit - although to me it even looked fine without it. Its worth a note that the two covers it replaces are bolted in place with two thorx screws each side and they just pop off however the new full width deflector should be riveted 5 places to the underside of the bonnet along with these bolts - I coudn't see an way to get the drill in there and coupled with the fact the rivets needed were massive, I opted to use double sided trim tape to hold it in place. You can buy it from most factors/dealers and its evil stuff anyway (its the stuff they stick the door bump strips on with) so when attached to the bonnet with just that and not even bolted it wasn't going anywhere! - personally I would suggest you use the same method rather then drill 5 holes just for the sake of it really.

Finally, I'm still not sure on the bulkhead divider - I couldn't find a revised part number so it looks to be the same but I'll wait to see what it looks like from the factory when I find one in the scrapies. If you look at the drainage photo, that shows it the best. The plastic of the scuttle finishes just before the rubber that sits on top of the divider starts where before the rubber sandwiched the two together - as I said though it shouldn't make any difference at all as water is heading down there regardless.

Gonna see if I can get the parts from a scrapyard as that does look much better than the original. My trim round the wipers and the scuttle are knackered anyway.

Do you think the bonnet strip that is supposed to be riveted to the bonnet will come off easily without any damage? Or would you just buy a new one?

I don't see why not, I think you might struggle to get the drill on the heads but you could always take the scaped bonnet off to get to them - the deflectors
