Andrew Johnson Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 What type of Vag-Com do I need for my 1997 (P reg) VW Sharan? Is my car an MK1 or MK2? Sorry - no idea what the difference is! I take it this Vag Com lead won't do (I use it for my 02 plate Skoda Octavia).... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAG-K-CAN-1-4-OBD2-Commander-Full-AUDI-VW-Skoda-Seat-/270710886864?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item3f07a051d0#ht_4193wt_1141 Quote

Also where is the diagnostic port on my Sharan? I pulled out the cigarette tray in the centre console but there was nothing under that. I can't see anything near the fuse box either? Quote
gregers Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 yours is a mk 1. do a search on the forum for vag=com, loads of info, which should point you in the right direction. iirc it is under the ash tray, investigate furthur,im sure there is a flap/frame that comes out to expose the connection. Quote
Andrew Johnson Posted March 10, 2011 Author Report Posted March 10, 2011 Well I am stuck! I used my Vag Com cable and downloaded the software as per the ebay link above. Plugged it into my Sharan but it doesn't seem to recognise the ECU. It says my car is not OBD II compatible. Can anyone help? What software if any can I use on my 1997 Sharan to check for faults? marinabrid Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 i think the version from ross tech is 409 there is an earlier version as well, i downloaded them both, when you plug the usb lead in sometimes it wont find it try a different port on the laptop, took me ages of just fiddling around to make it connect in the end.
