Guest rusty Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 Hi All, Well actually not as bad as the description, but boy have I yet to work out how the parking sensors work. When I first start up and reverse for instance with nothing close around they go off in 3 or more extended bursts. But, if I come close to something they work ok. Move on and they're off again...... ????? One day perfect, next day who knows. Of their rockers I say !!! Does anyone know if they are actually programmed in any particular way? TIA Russell Quote
MrT Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 They are programmed to ignore constant warnings from the side so that when you are parking parallel to a wall maintaining a constant distance, they will ignore the wall after the initial warning so they alert to whatever you are heading towards. I have not heard them coming on with nothing around. As with any set of simple rules, there will always be situations where they get "confused". They are connected to the central controls of the car so if you have an ODB-2 interface you can actually read the distance of each individual sensor at the front and rear to the nearest object in rage. Guest rusty Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 Thanks for the reply MrT When I say nothing around, there are objects say 15 - 20 feet away. Once triggered though I can drive off down the road and they don't stop until I'm over 13(?)mph. All good fun. Regards Russell Quote
Richmond Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 I'm not sure that there's anything wrong with them. When reverse is engaged they beep (once on mine, I think) whether or not there's anything near. They then do their thing, beeping away as necessary until you go over a certain speed (15 mph IIRC, but probably varies from car to car). Once I set off, I find that as I drive down the road with parked cars on either side and a single lane for traffic between them, I get beeps from the front as I pass parked cars. Do yours behave differently? They can be switched on and off with the switch on the central console, as you probably know. Quote
HJT Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 Have you got a towbar? Is it the fronts or backs that go off (they have different tones)? Howard Quote
Sher Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 I find that Moisture combined with dust or Dirt and rain (most of the rain in Sothern Spain is dirty  ) or just bumpy unmade campsite surfaces covered in small pebbles with undulations can set them off.Usually a good washing down and when dry sorts out the problem. Towbars even with bumper protector plate should no longer be a problem. Quote
pj_andrew Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 Sometimes I find that dirt covering the sensors confuses them. Just wipe and normality is restored. Quote
