davec Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Have done 47k with back tyres(Michelin original) but on front have had one pair Michelin, one set Hanook, one set of Dunlop and none seem to last.As the rears are nearly 7 years old I was going to replace all 4 probably with Michelins unless anyone knows of a longer lasting tyre.Any suggestions before I bite the bullet. The back ones are still more than legal but concerned with weakening of walls etc. Quote

Since then, anything else seems to wear quickly (couldn't afford to replace with Michelins). The rear original Michelins I replaced a few weeks ago. they still had 5mm across the tread! However, sidewalls were looking very tired and its probably unwise to run them for more than 5 years. I think anything on the back will probably last well. Currently have Goodyear Optigrip up front - lets see how they do. Quote
Galaxy Marc Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 On the front, got 22k out of the original Michelin Pilots which wore out on the inside edge. Replaced with Avon ZV5 which were very grippy but only lasted 8k and balded on the inside. Got the tracking checked and it wasn't out by much... Currently running Pirelli P7 which have so far done 4k and are still on 6.5mm all round. They are a hard tyre though which means the handling isn't as good as on the Michelins or Avons. Quote

sparky Paul Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 (edited) "Thanks for the input had 4 dunlop fast response for £422 inc VAT" Good price compared to mytyres. Are they in 215/55/16/W extra load? What's the ride/grip like compared with what you had? Do you need W rated? Mine only needs H rated - about £105 on mytyres for Dunlop Fast Response... ...and don't forget the forum discount too. Edited March 7, 2011 by sparky Paul Quote
Galaxy Marc Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 Have always fitted the same spec as came on the car originally. However just checked the handbook and you're right. H95 or W97 in 215/55/16. XL obviously. Wish I'd known earlier, could have saved myself a few quid. Thanks for the tip. Quote
