Hi,

I have a 1999 1.9 tdi galaxy which is driving me mad....as soon as I fix one problem another one starts!

This weeks problem is a rotary banging noise which gradually increases in volume and intensity and then dissappears. It may go a few days without any noise and drive ok. As speed is increased the noise speeds up .

On depressing the clutch the noise goes away. The noise seems to come from central maybe slightly to left of driving position.

I have recently had the car in the garage to change the gear cables and this noise started shortly after the grease monkeys gave it me back. Is it possible they knocked something out of place?

Also to add to my woes I noticed it has started becoming difficult to change down from 3rd gear to 2nd or 1st.

It seems like it could be the driveshaft but would this affect gear change and why would it go away when clutch down or is this two separate problems?

Any help greatly appreciated.
