gbrvww Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 The saeftey belt on the passenger side is broken. Replacement at local dealer is rather expensive (300+), being the part itself and the labour. I have found the a replacement part at a friendly price and had the winding mechanism unbolted quick enough, but it is also connected to some kind of steel wire. I guess it is the device that makes the belt tighten in case of an accident. How to undo that? Any help is much appreciated. Quote
Mirez Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 You don't - its all one assembly and must be renewed as one. If your new one hasn't got it then you've been sold a rear belt rather then a front belt (or an early Mk1 version which didn't have the pre-tensioner). Quote
gbrvww Posted February 6, 2011 Author Report Posted February 6, 2011 Thanks, I had understood that much but was wondering what must be done to undo the pre-tensioner. The steel wire runs under the carpet/sill casing and I would like to know what I have to remove to find the other end. Quote
Mirez Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 it sits down to the side of the front seat. You'll need to remove the plastic trim along the door opening and lift the carpet to get to the bolts Quote
