Hi

I was just wondering after having a lot of problems with my auto box on a 1999 galaxy 1.9 tdi if someone could explain to me do the driveshafts fit into the gearbox or is there a seperate final drive unit as i have paid nearly £1700.00 for a recon box only to have it go back 2 times because of problems this time i took it abroad and broke down it looked like it was drive shaft problem but have been told it is transmission the garage where i had box fitted are saying that the driveshafts have there own drive unit not into gearbox and i have been told that the garage are fobbing me of so they can charge me another fortune .

when i put car in drive or reverse it seems to go into gear but makes a racket and does not drive forwardor reverse shafts do not spin where they go into box/final drive.

hopefully someone can shed some light on this

many thanks

TONY

I had a similar loss of drive fault on my Galaxy due to stripped splines. The part that is bolted into the gearbox failed on mine, the splines were totally rounded off.

It all needs to be changed, ie gearbox insert and shaft. It's a simple but costly repair!

Hi Paul

Thanks for that info I actually thought that was the problem so before i sent the car back to the garage i removed both shafts where they entered the box and both shafts are ok also thought maybe the part where the slines go into the box had rounded but upon putting my finger inside and using a bright light i found they where ok as well that is why i am suspecting the auto box but garage telling me it is not but i must admit they have had this car back 3 times now after the origiginal box was recond and i think they are tired and it is making them look like idiots that is why they are saying it is not the box

regards

Tony
