hi there,

I have just bought a galaxy 1999 glx and drove it form london to marbella in southern spain. all was well and we arrived without any trouble. Just went to take her out after 2 weeks and there is a puddle of water underneath where the battery is, approx.

Anyone got any ideas about this. I looked under the bonnet but cant see where the water is coming from. need to pick up the outlaws from malaga airport 2mrw evening so would really appriciate the help

many thanks in advance

is there coolant missing from the header tank?

...I'm not really up on whats going on under the bonnet and I dont know what a header tank is. I think where you put the water for the radiator is half full (is that just above the battery?) and the water for the windscreen is completely full.

thx

LOL...

If the header tank, behind the battery is half full that is normal, you should be able to see a max and mix mark on the tank, half way is normal

the water for the windscreens has nothing to do with the engine so forget about that

is there anywhere else the water could have come from, any rain, condensation , have you been using air con?

i would suggest keeping an eye on the water in the header tank and the other eye on the temp gauge and carry a large bottle of water just incase of an emergency

when you find a garage you can ask them to pressure test the coolant system (around

Fleng,

thanks so much for your help, the van is garaged so no rain, i havent been using AC. will carry water with me and go to the garage first thing to get the test you mentioned.

I feel less panicky now so once again thanks for all your help.

no worries mate

keep an eye on temp, dont let it overheat and you'll be ok

if it does overheat on your way just pull up and let it cool down and add water if ness..

let us know how you get on

Hi Fleng,

took it to the local garage and they reckon the radiator is leaking but cant get a new one for a week so he put some sort or liquid into the radiator and said I could drive it for a couple of days. How safe is this and can I drive it for up to a week like this or am i asking for trouble?

hard to say without seeing the leak

only thing you can do is keep an eye on the temp when you drive, only drive when you have to and as long as it doesn't overheat you should be fine

and keep water with you at all times
