Guest nimrod Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 best bets to do a search on the topic, its been covered a few times :o most common cause of this seems to be the brake light switches! as on the other posts for this fault try resetting them for a temp fix or just replace them outright Quote
Buncers Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 we new it had this prob when we bought the car and the previous owners (friends) had it looked at by fords and they could not find what the prob was. I just find it amazing how Ford know nothing of this fault - it seems one of the commonest on this web site. I could be wrong, but it looks like almost anyone with a not very new Gal or Shal get it. Also it is not so easy to get rid of - lots of posts with good and bad experiences. Look for "Glow plug warning light" or similar combination. I've changed my brake switch (black one - yeah there are 2), but still have the problem. Haven't bothered to try fiddling with reset or the blue one yet. Good Luck Quote
Tigger Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 Twice had this problem. First time it was after towing the load on the switch seemed to make an arc in the switch. The coil light would come on after about half an hours driving when you hit traffic and had to use the brake. Switch the engine on and off and it would be Ok. Second time I cleaned the switch with plenty of switch cleaner and again that cleared it. Had no more problems until I sold it. Quote

seatkid Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 New problem is that the brake lights now work not only when the ignition is on but also when it there is no key in the ignition. Thats how it should be. Quote
Guest chrisH Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 I also had the light come on on my Gal, but it wasn't the brakes. The light flashes if the engine managment system detects any problems. Thats how i understand it anyway. I plugged in the laptop running VAG-COM and low and behold some errors were reported. I fixed the problems, reset the errors and all is ok now. Anybody in the Liverpool, Ipswich, Kettering area need any help let me know, I seem to be in those areas most weeks. Quote
