Guest Gez Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 I'm looking to buy a used/nearly new (ie ex-demo) Galaxy (2.8 Ghia manual) and have picked up on the "facelift" comment in this forum a couple of times. As far as I am aware, the Galaxy range was updated in 2001 and this is the current new model. Has there been a further 'facelift' since? I am looking at 1 or 2 year old versions and don't want to chase after an 'old' model. Could someone explain? thanks very much Gez Quote
Guest nimrod Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Anything after 2000 Wreg should bve a face lifted model, late 2000 the facelifted model was released although a lot of the modfications were in the pre face lifted model from 1998 onwards eg. the CJB/GEM, modular wiring loom, side air bags and a few other things........ in 2004 a tarted up model was released! it involved a few bits of chrome trim stuck on around the grill, the bonnets leading edge, above the number plate on the rear hatch, chrome door handles, roof bars and fog light surrounds as well as a few new interior trim and paint colour options, different alloy wheels and not forgetting the 130 bhp TDI the amount of chrome bits you get depends on the spec of the vehicle and the parts you add on from the option list! the chrome roof bars are an option only on the ghia I believe as are the chrome door handles which are only available on the ghia Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 2000 "W" - there are both the "old" and "new" models around. It took a while for the facelifted models to make it to RHD and get shipped over to the UK, and for a few months at least, the uprated 115PS diesel engine was in short supply (it appears that VW initially rationed the number of diesel engines they sold to Ford). The facelifted models are substantially different to the original ones - as well as the cosmetic differences there are many hundreds of different parts "under the skin". Unfortunately the aircon system didn't seem to get improved very much with the facelift. The latest tweaks, as Nimrod said, appear to be nothing much more than some chrome bits, plus a slight change in the interior cloth and a few new colours or the exterior. If you are looking to buy a 2.8 manual, I think you will find that all facelifted models are autos - which is a pity for you, as there is a definite improvement after the faclift - IIRC the engine went from 12valve to 24valve and the power output increased from just under 200bhp to just over 200bhp.
