Ron C Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 While driving my 51 plate (2.3ltr petrol) manual at 70mph, there was a loud thud / bang and the engine and all electrics suddenly shut down completely but almost immediately, it all restarted. The car shuddered, all lights on dash flashed randomly and the trip computer started counting down? After stopping for five minutes, the car seemed to be fine. After a further 50 miles, it done the same again. I continued on and the same thing happened a further 3 times although, it was less severe. It then drove a further 100 miles without fault??? I checked the engine on each occasion and there are no outwardly sign of damage or loss of fluids. If anyone knows why this happened or has experienced a similar occurence, I would greatly appreciate your advice. Also, the car seems sluggish in gears 1,2 & 3 but seems to have plenty power in 4th & 5th? Any ideas??? Many thanks Ron C Quote

The bang was probably a missfire, the sluggish behavoiur 1,2 & 3 is where you're not firing on all cylinders on highgears the problems is less noticable the cold & damp has probably exposed the problem. To check use a spare spark and pull each lead/pack connect to spark plug and see if you have spark as a quick way off checking also looks fo cracks in packs.
