Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 What do you mean by knocking? Where is it coming from, and when does it happen (under braking or all the time, for instance)? Quote
Guest emzrs Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 you can here the knocking in side the car every time you apply the brake and the brake pedal vibrates under foot quit violently.Has had new disc and pads fitted and ball joints etc are ok Quote
Richmond Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Sounds like the ABS is misbehaving, as you obviously realise; the correct operation of ABS sounds and feels quite dramatic, and it may be that yours is operating before the wheels lock. There have been problems with sensors malfunctioning; search for the threads. Dirt seemed to be a problem IIRC. One would expect your garage to have found this fault (if that's what it is), but it seems that your average Ford spanner monkey can't find his arse with both hands (other than any who contribute to this forum, obviously). Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Try an independent auto electrician who specialises in ABS. Quote
Guest Hotscot Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 I had exactly the same problem....so i removed the fuse and its been perfect ever since  It's the first car ive ever had with ABS so i guess i'm not missing much. Quote
Mussey1 Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 HotScot, Remember if your car has ABS you need it working for MOT. There may be insurance implications also. I had thought that the easy solution was just to disconnect the ABS if it had packed in, but the MOT people here in N.Ireland told me that if ABS is standard it MUST work. MOT tests in NI are government run, so it's not just a matter of mechanics trying to squeeze money out of you. Mussey1. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 ...and if you have ABS and it is not working, whatever the reason, the Police can issue you with a ticket for a serious fine for having a defective braking system. If you have ABS, it MUST be working. Quote
