zeuren Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Back in January I pulled away from the lights and it slipped out of gear. I hadnt properly locked it in gear. Since then i've not been able to properly engage reverse. I can get the car to move back by holding the gear stick in position. Theres much crunching as the gears keep slipping by each other but it does reverse. Its better when its warmed up. I put a search out on Find-a-part and the scrap merchants all said that i need to provide a gearbox number. But i cant find a gearbox number. Does anyone know where i can find a gearbox number? Can anyone give me any advice in getting this problem sorted? Quote

Some Galaxy's are fitted type 5-Speed Manual Transaxle - VXT75 later models MTX75 depending on variantto find more information go to http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do Quote
Natt Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 Im guessing its a manual and not an auto box? Before you start with the expensive replace the gearbox route, have you looked at the more obvious stuff yet? First place id start is the gear linkage itself, either over time or as the result of an impact (hit any big potholes recently?) the gear linkage can become misaligned. Even the smallest misalignment can cause the box to jump out of gear and make gears difficult to select. Id start with that if I were you my friend, get the obvious stuff out the way first before shelling out the Quote
