Seatdriver Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Hi, During the cold weather I have noticed the manual gearbox in my 55 plate alhambra 130 (33,000 miles) has developed a chatter when the engine is at idle and stone cold (-5 at the time). If the clutch is depressed the noise stops. This noise is not there once the engine has warmed up. My question is does the 6 speed vw manual gearbox have a weakness to cause this chattering sound, is it hearalding some future Quote
Sher Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 I noticed something similar during a cold start the other day, like something catching momentarily. When I moved the gear stick accidentally to the left whilst in neutral I could hear cogs grating. Perhaps the reverse idler gear? Movement to the right stopped it Quote
