greg Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 Hi,I've just purchased 03 2.3 ghia, really happy with car in general but I got 2 keys witth the car 1 just standard key (which works fine, opens doors and starts car) the other a 2 button remote key last owner changed battery in the key but to no avail, the key itself opens the door and turns the ignition but car won't start with it!! I take it the transponder within the key doesn't work or the car doesn't recognise it? How do I fix that? I saw a reply somewhere that said get a key with remote off ebay but how do I know which one to get?? any help appreciated, thanks in advance. Quote
sotal Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 That's unfortunate, most probably the remote key has lost it's transponder chip (often happens when people drop their keys and it splits apart) If you pull the key blade section off the remote you should see the loose chip in the key section or on the table if it falls out. So first check to see if it is there, I'm guessing it will be missing! You then need to either code the current one in (if it has got a chip) or buy another one (if it hasn't got a chip) If you had 2 working keys you could program a 3rd in yourself, but as you only have one you would need to take it to a garage with ford diagnostics equipment. This will set you back between Quote
gregers Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 sounds like the transponder from the remote key ISNT THERE.have you checked that its actually there? yes you can buy a new remote key from ebay, but i would say your 1 is working ok,just missing the pats chip. just for reference on the side of the remote key is a code you will need to make sure that the new key has the same code/frequancy. if above is right then youve got a bit of a problem,as you will only have 1 working key.this is where your problems start,i:e COULD BE EXPENSIVE as ford will charge you something like Quote
