marinabrid Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Evening all,98 S reg TDI 110 AFN 150,000 miles, just passed mot, i looked and was shocked we had car for 6 years this week.i know when we bought it i had the timing belt and pullys done. since then we have only done about 15,000 miles, was used as 2nd car by the wife. for the last 2 years its only done 500 miles a year and these are short journeys. should i get the belt changed again with the pullys or not or is it ok to do some more miles. Thanks Quote
sotal Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 From the age of the rubber yes you should get the belt changed, and the pulleys may as well be done whilst you are in there. I guess you've got to weigh up the value of the car vs the cost of the timing belt job vs the risk of it going. Quote
seatkid Posted November 25, 2010 Report Posted November 25, 2010 (edited) should i get the belt changed again NAH...I personally wouldn't bother with your mileage / usage. Its not a PD engine...If you're worried about it then do a visual inspection (although I think you need to remove an engine to remove the cam belt cover. I think you'll find its fine (unless you're wife does drag racing). Also cost of replacement is half the value of the car. When I changed mine at ~8 years/75,000 miles the belt/tensioner looked in excellent condition. Edited November 25, 2010 by seatkid Quote
