Key Stuck In Lock

Bought a 2002 TDi this week and just getting used to a few things.

 

The remote control key did not work so spent

Welcome to the forum,

To remove door card you will first need to remove black cover behind door latch plain dinner knife works best .Then you will see screw.The panel is held on by yellow clips don't worry if you brake a few there's loads anyway give the panel a hearty pull.Then you see grey membrane.

 

To remove handle open door and you will see 3 hex screws they will undo with ordinary allen key when you take apart handle take aphoto with mobile/camera first so no forgetting how it goes together.To remove key the bareel will need to come out of handle should just fall out if key is right key...might be worth going scrappy's and getting spare handel first.

Had hoped to try it out but dont think I will be tackling this job today. Have called my breakdown service to hear what they have to say.

Hi again,

 

Breakdown service just left and thankfully managed to extract key from the driver lock with gentle force (using a pair of pliers). He did try to remove the door card previously but seems to be glued on in places.

 

This maybe a problem in the future as I suspect the issue with the key barrel is still there. So until I figure out what to do, I have put a tape over the key lock to prevent the key being inserted and the same thing happening again.
