Fault On Brake Lights

Can anybody help

when i press the brake pedal the brake lights come on and the number plate light goes out but the dashboard lights and the rear fog lamp lamp on the main light switch lights up, also ive noticed that the reversing lights do not work.

any ideas.

The wiring between the tailgate and body fraying witll be the most likely cause.

had this on mine. nearly all the wires in the tail gate rubber  boot drivers side where broken. had intermitent number plate lights. rear wiper wouldnt park properly or didnt work at all. no reversing lights. lift the rubber gaiter up and check the wires. your fault will be in there.spent a good couple of hours cutting out the old broken wire and soldering in new wire with heat shrink over the joins.
