pferry11 Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 Hi guys,I am looking for a bit of advice regarding my clutch on a MKIII 1.8 Zetec. I picked up the car brand new around a year ago (Nov 09) and thus far have done around 6k. I did find the clutch to sit quite high when I first got the car, and did stall it a good few times, this only lasted about a week, until I got used to it. The problem I am having now is that when pulling away from a junction on an incline, I sometimes get a whiff of a burning clutch. The problem I have is that if I use less revs the car will stall, and if I release the clutch quicker the car either jolts forward or stalls, when I find a happy medium I tend to get the burning smell. (Not every time but 3 to 4 times a week). To make matter worse, I was stuck in tea time traffic the other day on the M8 in Glasgow, for just over two hours (bad weather and multiple incidents making the normal tea time driving worse). In this time I only travel around 12/15 miles, and because of all the slow movement and starting and stopping, I believe I really burnt the clutch, the smell was horrendous, and nearly a week on, it hasn Quote
Smilge Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Hiya P ..... me thinks you need to get this checked out as it isn't going to get any better. I had one incident of the burning clutch issue trying to get the caravan up a kerb and onto the drive. Since then I have had no problems and eventually the smell went away on its own. Start shopping around matey. Quote
bullstein Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 I think the problem is that you need an system update to be done by a Ford Dealer They won't know what you are on about but I had this problem of stalling/burning clutch until I got the update done. The problem stems from the car having a fuel saving thing that runs really low rule whilst idling, when you the move the car there is a delay whilst the fuel switches to normal mode. This is the point where you momentarily lose power and have to rev - thus burning the clutch Take it to your dealer telling them the car needs a system update Quote
