Guest rusty Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 Hello All, Hope everyones BH was good..... Coming back from our trip away I was going up long, fairly steep hill at about 60 and suddenly the power in the engine died . I was able to still drive the car but it struggled all the way home. Called the RAC and when then swirtched in on a test drove it.... guess what . You're right - all AOK again. The RAC man said that there may have been a problem that caused the turbo to shut down. Switching the engine on and off reset everything. Is this likely to be a one off? or signs of something more serious? Sorry if the details are a bit sketchy. Regards Russell Quote
oggie Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 MAF sensor is most common fault with your symptoms, dont buy a replacement from your fraud dealer, if you search MAF on this site you will find a link to GFS website where you will get a replacement for about Quote
Guest rusty Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Hello, Thanks Ivor and Oggie for your replies...... Any idea as to how lomg it will now go on before needing replacing or is it a question of ' how long is a piece of string'? Is it harmful to the engine or dangerous in any way? Thanks Russell Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Get it changed ASAP - engine will not run correctly with duff sensor and long-term damage may result. You may also find that the emissions are out, which technically means you are breaking the law and are liable to a fine if stopped for a roadside check. Quote
ben hudson Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 I had the same, and garage found a split in one of the small pipes on the turbo, (the pipe was about 1/4 inch diameter and about 6 inches away from the battery)took 3hrs to do but once found everything has been fine Good luck Ben Quote
Guest Bri Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 How spooky is this, I was just about to ask advice about the same, towing along the M4 came to a hill and down to 35mph. Stopped a first available thinking brakes on car or caravan were binding or dropped anchor etc. no fault found restarted engine and pulled fine but it did it one more time before I got home. Stopped/started all okay again. Your Questions and answers sound the same!! Quote
