theking Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 Hi, I am looking at buying a 2001-2004 galaxy with the intention of taking out all the rear seats and converting into a mini camper type vehicle. Have done a bit of research and cant find anybody on the web that has had a go at this before. Idea is to put a slim kitchen bar lenght of car behind passenger seat then a sofa type bed / rock and roll bed behind the drivers side. Does anybody know the internal dimensions for the mk2....need floor to roof (behind front seats) lenght so from back of front seats to tailgate door (with tailgate shut) and from rear passener door to opposite door (internal). Did look at a van but prefer the 'car' like feel of an mpv plus with the 1.9td should be able to get 40mpg+ hopefully. Thanks Quote
suzuki91 Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 best bet is to find one for sale and explain what you want to do and ask the dealer if you can take all the measurements you need. Quote
bingo nightly Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 I'm sure I have seen a picture of something like this on the internet before but I can't remember where. Personally I have thought the internal headroom would have been too restrictive due to the height of the floor to start off with, but then I am over six foot two. Also access is not ideal as most vehicles that you can kip in have sliding rear doors, I'm thinking of Mitsubishi Delica and VW transporter etc. That said I would like to see some pics of it if you do go ahead with it. bingo nightly Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 This may give you some ideas: http://www.caravans-for-sale.com/14766 I think thats the one I saw before, looks very nice, but as suggested in my previous post, without the elevating roof I think head room is too restrictive for a camper conversion. 11 grand for a 12 year old Galaxy! :) Good way to make a few quid if you have the time and skills to carry it out.
