Guest Murdock Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Has anybody tried to face lift their MPV. I wonder if is just a case of changing the bonnet, grill bumper, wings and lights. All these parts could be sourced from a breaker from a rolled or heavy rear damaged donor vehicle. Is it possible? Is it worth while? Quote
Guest nimrod Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 I would imagine for the amount of work and the costs involved it would not be worth while? the majority of the parts required could be sourced through a body panel shop but it may be a better option to get a body kit and a decent set of alloys? Quote
Guest Murdock Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 But is it possible to do? I'm not big on body kits (except yours does look awsome Nimrod) I prefer the subtly look. Quote
Guest nimrod Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Well from what I can gather you would need the two front wings, the bonnet, the bumper, the grill and possibly the slam panel, this is for the Galaxy, as you have a Sharan I'm not sure what parts exactly you would need? try parking up along a new model and see what the difference are? Buncers Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 Body kits - What are these ? What do they do and how much do they cost ? Nimrod - any chance of a better photo of your Gal (I assume it's been Body kitted) Quote
Guest nimrod Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 If by mine you mean my avitar? its not mine :P I havent got round to sticking a body kit on my Galaxy! although I am in the proccess of looking for certain parts, a rear spoiler, side skirts etc but it will be a mix and match set as I only like parts of different manufacturers kit and those I do like seem to be only available from abroad as the uk stockist is no more :P or from places that charge well over the top prices! http://www.espera-sbarro.com.fr/modeles/2000/sharan/p_sharan_01.jpg Quote
Buncers Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 That pic is fantastic. Ever seen a real body kitted Gal like that ? Quote
HJT Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 Jeez I wouldn't fancy your chances if you rolled that and I bet the scuttle shake is hideous. Still, looks pretty cool though. Howard Quote
Guest nimrod Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 Forget rolling it! how the hell do you fit a roof mounted screen to it ? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 Back to Murdoch's original question - I think you will find that the scuttle panels and loads of other bits "under the skin" are different and that it will be horrendously expensive, if not impossible, to facelift an older shalaxy. Would probably be cheaper to part-exchange to a newer model. If you go back to the motoring magazine articles at the time of the facelift (early 2000) you will find that they talk about extensive modifications and upgrades that made the facelifted models almost an entirely new vehicle. Guest nimrod Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 to quote Ford.........The basic body structure of 2000.75 Galaxy is the same as that of its predecessor. The most noticeable changes are:Modified tailgate with new trim components and revised rear window.Attachment of components at the front of the vehicle in New Edge Design with bolted on fenders.Revised hood hinges, gas strut on the hood.Modified side member.Reworked side components.Noise reduction measures using foam elements, sound damping matting and plastic covers.Modified transmission tunnel. _dg Posted May 9, 2004 Report Posted May 9, 2004 I really can't see any point in wanting to change the external appearance - other than to try and convince everyone else that the car is newer and more expensive than it actually is. The only real benefit in the upgrade model would be in the inside - where you spend most of the time and do all the driving from. But then you are talking silly money for little gain Quote
Guest Murdock Posted May 9, 2004 Report Posted May 9, 2004 Thanks for all the advise, If it was just a case of changing some body panels then i'd go ahead. I think i'll leave the face lift. Many years ago I had a maestro van which I converted to a montego by just swapping the body panels, I also wacked in the metro turbo engine!!, the project took me 6 months and I had the fastest van around....... In my defence Hey I was young!!! Quote
