josh and ben Posted October 20, 2010 Report Posted October 20, 2010 Hi all I have a 07 2.0 tdci galaxy In the recent cold weather the steering has begun sticking when trying to turn right normally clears within a mile and is fine from then on until next morning. Has anyone else come across this? Ford and the dealer seem to be denying any knowledge of fault with "no fault found" being the reply. Needless to say warranty expired 2 months ago. Thinking about changing the pas fluid just as matter of coarse really, anyone changed pas fluid on a mk3 galaxy before? is there anything special to be done regarding electric pump/bleeding system? Thanks Quote
brighter01 Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 I had a similiar thing with my MKIII, 2.0 TDCI, while in France, we got off the ferry in calais, and straight away the steering felt a bit strange, it would stick when turning right, and then 'pop' and would be fine again. After leaving the steering in the straight position for a short time then turning right again the same thing would happen. The problem got worse, and when we arrived in Paris i took the car to the local Ford dealer, they diagnosed the problem as the power steering pump, but after fitting a new one couldn't remap the ECU. so disabled the old pump and refitted it. Leaving me to drive home with no power steering. Car went back to Ford under warranty, and after 12weeks, the car was returned with a new power steering pump, which had faield due to the steering rack failing! Hope it's not the case for you, otherwise it may be expensive, the rack and fitting was over a grand on its own! Quote
Jim R Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Our "07" mk3 did the same, initially at starting, then after driving in a straight line for a few miles. We had a new steering rack fitted under warranty, and this fixed it. Mileage was approx 55 000 miles. Quote
northtim Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 Oh S**t, think I have same problem and sounds expensive. Driving at moment, especially from cold, it feels like the power steering is cutting in and out. Can turn the wheel a short way and then it tightens and need to put a bit more pressure and the wheel sort of clears and turns OK. Getting worse though, and dangerous as don't know whether to use truning force as if power steering working or use muscles as if it is off. Parking a few days ago power steering just wasn't there at all. This is an 06 2.0 TDCi, guess it is out of warranty now, have had it about 3 1/2 years and was 12mths old dealer car when we got it. If others have had similar problem how widespread is it? At moment I have it booked into my local non-dealer garage for them to have a look but if it is a common problem maybe I should be on at the dealer with a not fit for purpose claim even if out of warranty? northtim Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Have had the Galaxy into a garage, not a Ford Dealer. They have checked everything they can around the steering and can find no problems, other than they could feel the slight resistance when turning left on start up. All they could suggest was ne steering rack, but that would be a Quote
