brighter01 Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 Hi, Just purchased a set of glowplugs to replace the ones in my 56 plate 2.0TDCI, as it seems to be getting slower to fire up. Can someone please supply some photo's on the removal of the plugs. I have taken the plug off the top of the plug assembly, but cannot seem to remove the plastic connector still attached?? Thanks, Quote
brighter01 Posted October 18, 2010 Author Report Posted October 18, 2010 Hi, Can someone please help me out on this one, i have taken some photo's of the parts that i am having trouble removing, any advice would be welcome..... I am having trouble removing the black plug shown in the close up in the second picture below. How do these come off, as the steel part is secured to the engine block pretty tight, and so is the black plug, and i don't want to damage any parts by using brute force. Thanks, Quote

Willie Krashitt Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 Slightly confusing this - You say you want to change the glowplugs, but you show a picture of the fuel injectors? To remove these plugs, push the connector in as if you were installing it, then press down on the small tab on the top to release the "catch", then simply pull off. The glowplugs are further down, and the wire is held on by a small nut, which you only nip up (10Nm).To get to the glow plugs, you need to remove the EGR valve and cooler assembly. If you are working on the fuel injectors, be careful. These systems hate dirt and can easily be damaged by it. Injectors aren't cheap either - over Quote
brighter01 Posted October 19, 2010 Author Report Posted October 19, 2010 Hi George, Thanks for the reply, so it would help if i was looking at the right area, can you please send a picture of where to locate the glow plugs? Regards, John Quote
Willie Krashitt Posted October 20, 2010 Report Posted October 20, 2010 Hi again, Please see the attached. Also please note my earlier remark about torque: You need to tighten the glowplugs into the head to 10Nm (about 7 lbft), while my comment about just 'nipping up' the wiring connector is to just 2Nm. Do not overtighten these nuts as you will easily break the new glowplug. Good luck,George. Quote
Mattes21 Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 Hi, know this sounds stupid but I'm having the same problem...I was told they are behind the egr valve at the front of the engine, this correct?Easy to do or very time consuming? Does anyone have a clear picture for me?? Cheers in advance Matt Quote
Whatfish Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Hi Just did it this morning, very easy. Look for the thick red cable that's clamped along the front of the engine block. You need to make sure you have the right set of box spanners before you start but the only thing I had to remove was the air pipe to the middle of the engine block to get to the glow plug on the right hand side. The nuts connecting the wire to the glow plugs weren't ferrous so I had to be careful not to drop them or lose the in the engine. A few spare nuts wouldn't be a bad idea. Cheers Gerrard Quote
