jonnyf Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Howdy Im trying to remove the plugs but cannot get the coil pack off. Is there a tool for doing this please, or is it just the clip and a matter of force. Or is it possible to pull the coil pack off without removing the top wires. Kind regards Jonny f Quote

Kind regards Jonny f hi Jonny,Removing the coil's can be tricky and should only be done if absolutely necessary,I say this because its easy to crack the coils and then they arc on engine worst case is small fire and they melt .Some owners think It's is a good idea to have spare coil to hand and keep in glove box .sparks usually have 30k shelf life..Anyway remove the air duct over coils, then the clips on top of coils they can be tricky as plastic hardens gently prise each one some times its eaiser to pull the lot out in one go by gently prising each one (leaving wires on).Whatever you do take your time. They break easy and the evidance of the break might not show until meny miles from home. Early to late coil part numbers as you can see lots of revisions vw trying to get coil right.VW 022905100GVW 022905100DVW 022905100AVW 022905100N VW 022905100K Anyway only remove if you've reached service limit and thensome.. v6mikey Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Well I changed all the spark plugs recently. Pondered on how to remove them for a few minutes. I just got a suitable sized allen key, then held the allen key in a set of mole grips to pull the coil packs out. Worked a treat! :D I wasn't that careful and they are still fine 2 months later.
