wackojackouk Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Hi guys Just forked out nearly Quote
gregers Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 yep sounds like it,especially when you hit a pot hole or bump they do make a bit of noise,1 more thing to eliminate is the restrictor bar, with engine off open bonnet and grab hold of the engine and try and rock it or get someone you trust to sit in the car and very gently rev the engine while you look to see if there is excess movement,do a search on here for roll restrictor and drop links, iirc there are intructions in the faqs on how to change them. richyrich Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 For drop link testing, just grab roof bar and rock the the car sideways. You can hear it straight away if links are the problem. This way is the easiest test I have used.Easy job, but use decent make. Richyrich Quote

Even the slightest wear causes terrible noises over bumps. Its a 15 min job per side to change. Just do it and you wont regret it. Fleabay items only last 10,000 miles. Get decent ones. Quote

Stupid question but if we're ruling cheap one's like these on ebay out - where's the best place to get them - Frauds? VW etc and how much are we talking? Quote
Thekopman Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 I got mine from Ebay but they were ford originals.Lucky to find them though as most on ebay are aftermarket. The test I used was to simple turn your wheel on full lock and grab the anti roll link and push and pull.If there is the slightest of give then thats the problem. The most difficult part was getting the old one of.Its a double handed job (2 spanners or spanner and socket but acsses is difficult). When putting the new ones on I needed someone to sit on bonnet so suspension lowered far enough to attach both ends of link. There are more detailed instructions on fitting on here however! Good luck Quote
Mirez Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Lol, don't raise the car - it'll just slide into place if the car is level as the bar is at rest then - if you can't get enough access with the wheel on full lock then remove the wheel and then lower the jack a bit to bring the front end back level. nicebutdim Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 I had knocking on the front end too, thought it may have been the drop links. When I got under there I found them to be fine, but one of the track rod end ball joint was so loose you could move the wheel by about 1/2 inch each way! The worn one came off within 10 mins, but the drivers one was a different ball game altogether. Eventually I ended up taking out the steering rack so that I could get the steering arm in the vice and use a 6ft tube on a cut down spanner to force the track rod off. What a pig of a job! Quote
cell Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 Hi.. had knocking on mine so I did the drop links,, made no difference.. ended up being the shocks being knackered.. so I got Kwik fit to replce them and got some new top mounts off ebay for them to fit cost Quote
