randall977 Posted October 2, 2010 Report Posted October 2, 2010 Is it normal for the auto wipers to be a bit crazy on Fords? Go very fast when there's little rain then infrequently when you want them faster... Not a big complaint but wonder if that's just how they are? Quote
Rodders53 Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 (edited) Auto wipers? There is a sensitivity control on the wiper stalk that should help? Not noticed a problem on mine so far - but only had it 6 days - it has been raining though. After adjusting the sensitivity I'm happy with the intermittent wipe interval in light rain. Dirt in the area of the rain sensor can cause wiper issues (on the Freelander 2 I owned). Edited October 3, 2010 by Rodders53 Quote
randall977 Posted October 4, 2010 Author Report Posted October 4, 2010 Thanks for the tip - I assumed the sensitivity control was just for manual... Quote
Rodders53 Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Hah! Mine just went mad - well into full wipe mode at least, slow not fast (I think) for about 4 sweeps!?? Bit odd but it did go back to intermittent again. Didn't wipe continuously long enough to give auto lights as well (my previous car, a Freelander 2, would do that). "Must be a feature, sir." {I have noticed the auto wipers have the same 'I'll occasionally do a single sweep on switching on the ignition' issue as the FL2 - which could be a problem on a frozen screen! Must remember to switch off when parking!?) Quote
randall977 Posted October 5, 2010 Author Report Posted October 5, 2010 Yes, I do like them a lot and I know they work on a movement sensor basis but they do sometimes have a mind of their own. I am also very mindful that I must have them deactived in frost... Quote
Mirez Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Actually its not movement sensing but purely optical; Infrared is fired against the inside of the screen at a 45 degree angle, with a dry screen the light has little distortion and the receiver gets a strong signal bounced back Quote
buford_t_justice Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 I have this issue from time to time. Not bothered reporting to dealer as they are unlikely to be able to replicate fault when I need it to. Quote
lvgal Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 Just got car back from garage, had same erratic wipers, don't come on often enough when its raining, go mental when there is not a cloud in the sky. They couldn't replicate this and so I'm obviously imagining it. Put car alongside a VW passat with auto wipers and the VW went off three or four times more often than mine,(it was raining at the time). I have also found that on a really bright day with deep shadows across the roads, the shadows will always set off the wipers, without fail. The sensor is linked to the auto lights too, but they seem fine at the moment. This is the second Ford I've had and I wouldn't get another. Designed to look good, but underneath just the same old crappy ford workmanship. Quote
