Ginettamad Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 I've just fitted new pads front and back but occasionally my Pad warning light comes back on? I know all the pads are new and connected ok but does the light have to be re-set with VAG.com?Or could my new pads be faulty and earthing somehow? Its most likely the rear pads as thats when the problem really started.Does it come on for other reasons also as once it came on when the handbrake was pulled?H Quote

Check that the fluid resovoir has the correct amount. I found that the cable on the pads can be difficult to route and it may be that there is a snag causing a short somewhere. If you had problems with the rears then check that out for a start. Quote
Mirez Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 The pad light is only linked to the pad system, the handbrake light doubles up as a low fluid light so its certainly an issue with the new pads. Remember this is a very simple ground loop circuit, a voltage is applied to one end and if its taken to ground its happy - any break in the circuit will chuck the light on. There is only one ground point and thats at the rear, the voltage is applied from the cluster to the front pad and then to the back and on to ground. The fact your light came on with the handbrake would make me think the cabling isn't routed correctly at the back and is under tension. Quote
Ginettamad Posted September 24, 2010 Author Report Posted September 24, 2010 (edited) All cables routed and clipped as they were from new. One at the front and one at the back and no damage found anywhere so its odd. 2 days driving and nothing then it comes on for a while then goes off again? I guess using the handbrake pressed the pads in hard enough to change pad pressure but furthur HB use has been fine? I know the Pads are all good matching ferrodo items but suspect a dodgy wear sensor on the rear pad is somehow allowing it to earth? Not too worried so I'll just monitor it.Service next. shahed Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 Did you have sensors on your pads? My 02 Gal TDi has front left sensor & rear right sensor pads. If your mechanic cut off the sensors then you will end up with brake light on dash. Hope that helps Quote
Ginettamad Posted March 28, 2011 Author Report Posted March 28, 2011 Still got this problem, I fitted all the new pads myself and connected both front and rear sensors up as they were on the old pads. The light had never come on before the swap but the pads were getting thin so I replaced them and the problem started. The light is now permanently on at every start up sadly and a pain. I have tried the usual option of joining the wires together using an old sensor plug with its wires soldered together but when connected it makes no change? Now worried its the Dash unit but its not an early dash (mid 2005)?Someone also mentioned that a low battery can cause this but I wont know until I change that and it still starts the car ok.As I say no sign of damage to the sensor wires but at some point will check the plug pins are long enough to make proper contact in the connectors.H Quote
