muppetofdoom Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 Good morning people ;) my aircon compressor has seized up ;) cant afford to repair it, it's slowly getting noisier (guessing the bearings in aircon clutch are buggered) is it possible to fit an aux belt for a model without air con ? and if so is the belt an easy fit for a lowly non mechanic like me :) ?Once again thanks in advance for any info/help offered Quote

I've run my 1.9 for years without a clutch plate ! Quote

I've run my 1.9 for years without a clutch plate ! Have removed power from compressor so it doesn't work, but the belt still drives the pulley which is making a right old racket now, this is what i want to shut up, hence the question about a shorter belt that would bypass this, any ideas ? nicebutdim Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 For the mk1 the Haynes manual shows you would need to change the pulley on the water pump to ribbed from the standard v shaped belt, get a shorter v belt from crank to steering pump and shorter ribbed belt that would then run water pump and alternater. Nice and easy, eh? Quote

I've run my 1.9 for years without a clutch plate !Sorry MOD I now see what you mean .. The pulley is fairly easy to get off and the bearing is inside it ..trouble is the alternator has to come off and the compressor unbolted to get enough room to get a puller in to take off the pulley (its only held on by a circlip) .I dont think you need disconnect the aircon pipes just waggle the pump round to make some space .Difficult for a non mechanic I would imagine .How long for a good mechanic then all you galaxy experts ?? ..........1 1/2 hours ??
